About

Welcome! I’m April Sullivan, the owner of Happy Social Dog. What started as a passionate hobby in 2018 focusing on puppy socialization has since grown into a professional practice supporting dogs of all ages. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of puppies, adult dogs, and their families, developing tailored training programs that respect each dog’s unique personality.

Before launching my business, I spent years in the corporate sector while dedicating my free time to local dog rescues. My most rewarding experiences were at a private rescue in Raleigh, NC, where I managed play groups, crate training, and provided daily care for up to 80 dogs. It was during this time that I discovered my dog, Smidge—also known as 'Nanny Smidge.' Today, Smidge continues her legacy by helping raise and socialize many of the puppies we work with here in Bend.

I have a lifelong passion for learning—both from the dogs themselves and from the world’s leading canine experts. I hold a BS in Business Administration from NC Wesleyan College as well as a practitioner’s diploma in Applied Zoopharmacognosy for Canines, earned under the guidance of Caroline Ingraham. To ensure my approach remains at the forefront of the industry, I frequently attend advanced training workshops. I am most inspired by relationship-based training because it prioritizes a partnership rooted in trust, fostering a deep and meaningful connection with every dog.

Originally from the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina, I moved to Bend, OR in 2016 with my husband Scott and my dog, Smidge.
